Manali is less a single destination than a launching point. Old Manali and Vashisht are the slow, walkable parts; Solang and Atal Tunnel open the high country; and for many travellers Manali is day zero of a Spiti or Leh road trip.
Best time to visit Manali
March to June for pleasant weather and snow at higher points. September to November for clear mountain views. December to February for snow in town, though high passes close.
How to get there
Bhuntar (KUU) is the nearest airport, about 50 km away, with limited flights. Most people take an overnight bus from Delhi (12–14 hours) or a train to Chandigarh or Ambala and drive the rest.
Getting around
Local buses and shared taxis connect Manali with Vashisht, Solang and Naggar. Beyond Atal Tunnel you need a hired vehicle or a bike; road conditions change with weather.
