Rishikesh travel guide
Ganga ghats, rafting season and the gateway to the Himalayas
Rishikesh splits into two moods: the yoga and ashram side around Swarg Ashram and Laxman Jhula, and the adventure side built around rafting on the Ganga. It is also the practical starting point for the Char Dham route and treks further north.
Best time to visit Rishikesh
September to November and February to May. Rafting season generally runs from late September to June, pausing in the monsoon. Summers are warm; winters are cold at night but clear.
How to get there
Dehradun's Jolly Grant Airport (DED) is about 35 km away. Haridwar railway station is roughly an hour by road, and buses run frequently from Delhi (6–7 hours).
Getting around
Autos and shared vikrams cover the main stretches. Both Ram Jhula and Laxman Jhula areas are pedestrian-first; motor vehicles cannot cross the footbridges.
