Udaipur is built around Lake Pichola, and almost everything a first-time visitor wants sits within a 2 km radius of it. The old town is walkable, the palace complex takes half a day, and the surrounding Aravalli hills add temples and forts within an hour's drive.

Best time to visit Udaipur

October to March is ideal. The lakes look fullest just after the monsoon, in September and October. April to June is hot and dry.

How to get there

Maharana Pratap Airport (UDR) is about 22 km from the centre. Udaipur City railway station connects to Delhi, Jaipur and Ahmedabad. The road from Jaipur takes roughly 6 hours.

Getting around

The old town is best on foot; autos handle everything else. Boat rides on Lake Pichola leave from Rameshwar Ghat inside the palace complex.
